Major player during the industrial revolution, the Cher department is full of places witnessing labor, social and industrial aspects of Europe. Industrialisation was primarily based on metallurgy and mining, thanks to the abundance of raw materials such as iron ore, wood and clay. Blast furnaces, tileries, mills, workers homes, coal markets… were built. In our territory, testimonials of metallurgical activity can be seen in the village of Grossouvre, such as collective housing "Les Galeries", the old coal market, and the Berry canal, waterway that has structured the economy and accompanied the development of our region throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

Bordered to the east by the Allier river, our territory has a rich wildlife and flora due to this river. The presence of the Allier river, wild river and tributary of the Loire river which separate here the Nièvre department from the Cher department, also sculpts the landscape of the villages of Mornay-sur-Allier and Neuvy-le-Barrois. You will see a beautiful landscape, in which you can enjoy a wide range of activities: fishing, canoeing, hiking…

On every village you will find some treasures of old. It's about functional buildings, sometimes spiritual, that reflect the past. A church, a dovecote, a washing place, a cross, a mil, a fountain, called "rural heritage" that we have to protect and share.
